How to supercharge your personal brand on LinkedIn

If you want to boost your personal brand on LinkedIn, understanding and leveraging analytics can be a game changer. LinkedIn provides a wealth of data that can help you assess the effectiveness of your content, measure engagement, and refine your strategy to enhance your professional presence. Friska Wirya explains how you canย  these insights, to tailor your LinkedIn activities (whether itโ€™s content, comments or outreach) to better connect with your ideal client avatar.

Hereโ€™s how you can use LinkedIn analytics to refine your personal branding strategy:

Understanding LinkedIn analytics

LinkedIn offers several tools and metrics to help you evaluate your profile and content performance. These include:

  1. Profile Views

This metric shows how many people have viewed your profile over a given period. A spike in profile views often indicates that your content or activities are attracting attention. Use this data to assess which types of posts or interactions are driving traffic to your profile.

Did you participate in someoneโ€™s LinkedIn live? Did you get tagged in a post? This is a useful way to see what collaborations are more effective than others.

  1. Post Engagement

Track the number of likes, comments, and shares your posts receive. High engagement rates signal that your content resonates with your audience. Analysing which posts perform best can guide you in creating more of the content your network finds valuable.

I often review the past 12 monthsโ€™ posts performance โ€“ I pick the top 5 and do variations of them moving forward.

  1. Follower Demographics

LinkedIn provides insights into the demographics of your followers, including their job titles, industries, and locations. Understanding your audienceโ€™s composition helps you tailor your content to address their specific interests and needs.

As I pivoted my LinkedIn content strategy to be more broad and less focused on what I do as a change and transformation consultant, Iโ€™ve increased followers with job titles beyond CIO and COO.

  1. Search Appearances

This feature shows how often your profile appears in search results and which keywords are driving these searches. Optimising your profile based on these keywords โ€“ if theyโ€™re the ones you want to be known for – can increase your visibility and attract more relevant connections.

This feature needs a bit of work. For example, hereโ€™s a screen grab of mine. Not very accurate.

  1. Content Performance

Evaluate how different types of contentโ€”articles, videos, infographicsโ€”perform in terms of reach and engagement. This analysis helps you identify which formats resonate most with your audience and adjust your content strategy accordingly.

I grew rapidly during lockdown a few years ago because of video. I now favour images, as this is my top-performing format. It could be different for you.

Now you know the types of data that are available in your profile, hereโ€™s what you can do about it.

Using analytics to refine your strategy

  1. Identify and Amplify High-Performing Content

Review your top-performing posts to identify common themes, formats, or topics. Use these insights to create more content that aligns with your audienceโ€™s preferences. For example, if your audience engages most with industry insights, consider sharing more thought leadership pieces.

  1. Tailor Your Content to Audience Interests

Use follower demographics to understand what topics and industry sectors are most relevant to your audience. Tailor your content to address these interests and provide value to your connections. For example, if a significant portion of your followers are in tech, focus on sharing insights related to technological advancements.

  1. Solicit Feedback and Iterate

Engage with your network to gather feedback on your content and profile. Use polls or direct messages to ask what topics theyโ€™d like to see more of or how they perceive your brand. Incorporate this feedback into your strategy and continue to iterate based on the results.

Leveraging LinkedIn analytics is a powerful way to refine your personal branding strategy and ensure that your efforts are aligned with your goals. By understanding key metrics, analysing performance data, and adapting your approach based on insights, you can enhance your LinkedIn presence, engage more effectively with your audience, and build a stronger personal brand. Embrace the data at your disposal and use it to drive meaningful improvements in your LinkedIn strategy, turning insights into impactful actions.
