Skye’s the limit: COSBOA taps new CEO to champion small biz in 2026

The Council of Small Business Organisations Australia (COSBOA) has named Skye Cappuccio as its next Chief Executive Officer, with the highly experienced advocate set to step into the role on 3 February 2026.

COSBOA Chair Matthew Addison said the board was thrilled to appoint a leader with serious chops in advocacy, sector reform and member-based organisations.

“Skye is an accomplished chief executive with a strong record of delivering policy impact, strengthening organisations and building trusted relationships across government and industry,” Addison said.

He added that her experience places her “exceptionally well” to lead COSBOA into its next chapter.

“The Board is confident Skye will bring fresh energy and a forward-looking approach that supports our members and the small businesses they represent.”

A leader with small business in her blood

Cappuccio joins COSBOA after a standout leadership career in the health and not-for-profit sectors. Most recently, she was CEO of Optometry Australia, where she drove national transformation, boosted member value and secured big advocacy wins.

But for her, this appointment hits close to home.

“This role deeply excites me. COSBOA has cemented itself as a strong and respected voice for small business, and it is a privilege to help build on that foundation,” she said.

Having grown up in a family business, Cappuccio said she understands both the pressures and the opportunities facing Australia’s millions of small and micro enterprises.

“Small businesses are integral to Australia’s economy and our community fabric. Under my leadership, COSBOA will remain focused on strong, ethical and fair representation, and on championing the conditions small businesses need to thrive.”

She added that she’s keen to work closely with COSBOA’s 50-plus member associations to expand the organisation’s influence and support the diverse small businesses they represent.

A big year ahead for small business advocacy

Addison said Cappuccio’s appointment comes at a pivotal time, with COSBOA set to ramp up its policy and advocacy efforts.

“2026 will be a significant year for COSBOA as we continue advancing policy settings that allow small businesses to do what they do best: drive productivity, employment and economic contribution across every community,” he said.

According to Addison, Cappuccio brings exactly what’s needed to elevate COSBOA’s national impact.

“Skye brings the capability, insight and collaborative approach needed to strengthen COSBOA’s influence and ensure the voices of our members and small businesses remain central in national decision-making.”

Cappuccio won’t be doing media interviews just yet, but all signs point to a leader ready to roll up her sleeves and push for a stronger, fairer landscape for the country’s small business owners.
