Street Science: A travelling science show business making STEM fun for kids
Firing up kids’ passion for science is all in a day’s work for Street Science, the Queensland winner of our INNOV8RS competition.
Steve Liddell has always been passionate about STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) but it wasn’t until he was working full time as a high school teacher that he came up with the concept for Street Science.
Determined to make science more interesting for disengaged kids, Liddell decided to bring his passion for the subject to life by delivering science facts in an entertaining way. Under the name ‘Liddell Education’, Steve launched the company’s first science show ‘Science on The Road’ as an outdoor science lesson in Brisbane’s Queen Street. After a year spent honing his craft and tweaking his performance, Street Science was born, a travelling science show set to educate and entertain Aussies kids.

“I’ve been a strong advocate for improving student outcomes through meaningful educational opportunities for a long time,” Liddell said. “In setting up Street Science back in 2012 I saw an opportunity to engage kids and the wider community through a high energy stage show and engaging workshops.”
Almost a decade later and Street Science is one of the best-loved science education tools in the country, Steve’s shows and workshops are taught all over Australia, facilitated by trained and experienced science educators.
Each show provides a mix of humour, interactive demonstrations and quality scientific explanations, delivering a science class that can be enjoyed by all ages.
Shows are based on the national curriculum, ensuring key learnings align with student’s needs.

“My team and I strive to make learning fun, whilst providing the best in science education experiences across a range of topics,” says Liddell. “From school incursions through to kids parties and community events, Street Science are recognised as the best in the business… and for a good reason. Whatever the occasion, if you need someone to fire up a love of learning in your community, you’ve found the ultimate experience here!”
Liddell says linking science to real-world situations is key to Street Science success. He hopes Street Science will engage the next generation of scientists.
“Our mission is to provide captivating entertaining lessons that excite and engage young Australians. We want to make science education fun and meaningful.”
